Technically, I first moved to the Triangle from rural Rowan County in 1996 to attend UNC. After I completed law school, my wife Julie, a fellow Tarheel, and I moved to Atlanta in 2004. While we enjoyed it, we jumped at the chance to come back in 2005 to advance our careers. We settled in the Brier Creek area of Durham; we liked its central location for work and play. My advice to newcomers is to check out each community. Dive in and experience each town to see which ones fit you best. That’s the beauty of the area; it’s not some monolithic identity that we’re all wrapped up in.

The Triangle is a place for entrepreneurs with dreams, and I decided to live that dream myself, launching the Forrest Firm in January of 2011. We offer various services to assist entrepreneurs and executives with proactive risk management strategies as well as dealing with the immediacy of certain business matters. I’m happy to meet newcomers, especially those looking to launch new businesses or those joining established companies as executives in need of legal counsel and risk management strategies.

My top tip for success is to network! Take advantage of the great attitude of the Triangle business community; get out to events at your nearest Chamber of Commerce. We’re all pretty committed to helping each other. There are so many things we love to do in the Triangle! For my family of five, nothing beats worshipping at the Summit Church. We enjoy supporting our beloved Tar Heels and having a great baseball fan experience watching the Durham Bulls. We enjoy Falls Lake, by boat or paddleboard, and there are great museums, including kid oriented Marbles in Raleigh. Our favorite restaurants include the Angus Barn, Beyu Caffe, Rue Cler, and Pizzeria Toro.
