As a Minnesota native, one of the best things about living in the Triangle is that even on March 17 you can get a taste of spring. I know it’s not the official start, but St. Patrick’s Day signifies spring for me. For the third year now, the Devine family has headed to downtown Raleigh for the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. It’s just fun to be in this atmosphere where everyone is excited and decked out in their best green.

The parade is very family friendly and they do it up really well. You get there early, line the streets and watch the action for about two hours. They have everything from traditional Irish dancers and bagpipers to local high school marching bands. That must be pretty cool for those high school kids to take part in such a big event.

My son Luke loved the fire trucks and motorcycles – two of his favorite things in the world right now. And my little girl, Leighton, enjoyed the puppies and clowns. Raleigh is alive during this great event and you can just feel the energy. Put a parade downtown with the packed streets and it makes for a fun day. Besides the parade, the people watching is also phenomenal. Check out this reveler:

I’m Irish so the festivities are also a special way to celebrate my heritage. We always end our day on the patio of Mellow Mushroom for lunch. It’s just an awesome day that kicks off spring for our family. And that’s why it continues to be a Devine family tradition.
