John got started in career coaching in his 20’s. Shirley Hall, (the previous owner) was looking to start her next act as a Comedian. She had met John and thought John would be good at career placement, services and coaching.
So there John was – asking questions, learning and coaching folks who needed and wanted career guidance and services, at a young age. He loves to help people and it shows in conversation with him.
30 years later he is still passionate about helping people find what they are good at. What will a client be most effective at and enjoy doing? He says, it’s about the right fit, building your brand. What are you supposed to do? Called to do?
John’s advice to area newcomers – Volunteer with organizations who you connect with what they are trying to do. Charities are always looking for help. A great way to meet people and help a great cause. As you meet people, ask the question: Is there anyone doing networking I could be involved with? Who do you know that I can connect with? What is a good connection for you? Who would you like to meet? He says that telling people you are new to the area invites help in making connections.
Meet up groups are another good option. Lots of groups meet virtually, via zoom or other services.
Be the one to organize and initiate a fun activity. Help the leader of an event, if you don’t want to organize it yourself. Warmer weather gives us more opportunities to gather outside.
